Section Editor, Bibliographic Essays

Theological Librarianship: A Journal of the American Theological Library Association

Introduction:
Theological Librarianship is an online, open-access journal, which is published twice a year by the American Theological Library Association. The journal publishes essays, columns, critical reviews, bibliographic essays, and peer-reviewed articles on various aspects of theological librarianship and its contribution to theological education.

Responsibilities:
The section editor for Bibliographic Essays is responsible for soliciting contributions and for managing the editorial process for bibliographic essays. The journal publishes bibliographic essays that survey and assess the literature on various topics related to the study of theology and religion, and thus facilitate theological education, research in religion, and informational reading. 

As a member of the editorial board, the section editor will also help to develop an advisory board and network of peer-reviewers, contribute to the overall direction and structure of the journal, and help to oversee the general editorial process. A small stipend is paid to the editor with the publication of each issue.

This is a part-time position at St. Mark's College, the Catholic Theological college on the campus of the University of British Columbia.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Principal of Saint Mark’s College, the Head Librarian plans and coordinates the development and maintenance of collections that support the programs offered by Saint Mark’s College and Corpus Christi College, the Catholic theological and liberal arts colleges at the University of British Columbia. The Colleges also provide Catholic campus ministry services to the UBC community. The Dr. John Micallef Memorial Library holds some 40,000 volumes and is the largest public Catholic library in the province. The Library specializes in theology, philosophy, church history, patristics, and religious education with additional reference materials supporting the humanities program offered through Corpus Christi College.

Qualifications:
MLS degree (achieved or in progress); Experience with information resources, reference services, and electronic systems in an academic library; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Commitment to the Mission and Vision of the two Catholic colleges.

Business Development Representative

Introduction:
This is a full time position in the Business Development Department, reporting to the Director of Business Development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Director of Business Development and colleagues to plan and execute ATLA’s public relations, sales and marketing campaigns for existing and planned products and services. 
  • Work as key liaison on major member and customer initiatives, including new markets.
  • Develop press releases, online catalogs, fact sheets, and other promotional collateral to optimize ATLA’s product visibility in print and electronic forums.
  • Proactively contact customers and potential customers, and work with aggregators on customer communications.
  • Organize customer feedback and suggestions for product enhancements and improvements and communicate these ideas to appropriate teams. 
  • Manage departmental intranet and other internal communications efforts. 
  • Support other market research programs, competitive intelligence efforts, and strategic initiatives. 
  • Handle all logistics, plan ATLA’s presence, and travel roughly 3-6 times per year to represent ATLA at academic conferences and other sales forums.

Peripheral Duties

  • Cross training to serve as back-up on other business development department activities, including aggregator relationships, royalty quoting, reporting and analysis, and customer relations. 
  • Participate in intradepartmental teams and closely working with peers in product support, financial services, member services, and publisher relations. 
  • Create and deliver in-person and online presentations on ATLA Products and Services to various audiences.
  • Work with outside consultants as necessary to coordinate specialized marketing efforts and campaigns.
  • Participate in other special projects as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications, Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Applicant must have direct professional experience in public-facing roles, including ability to work under pressure in deadline driven environment. 
  • Bachelors degree with minimum of four years of professional experience. 
  • Extensive writing, proofreading, editing and promotional marketing skills (press releases, online catalogs, fact sheets, advertisements, etc). Writing samples will be required and a proofreading exercise will be administered during interviews. 
  • Conscientious and meticulous, with a proven ability to operate at a consistently high level producing quality, detail-oriented work.
  • Academic and professional background in religion, and/or experience marketing products and services to libraries, clergy, congregations, and communities of worship.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with integrated enterprise-wide content management systems and MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, FrontPage and PowerPoint). 
  • Highly motivated and strong customer service orientation. 
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work independently under pressure.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree from ALA-accredited institution and/ or experience in electronic publishing preferred.
  • Experience developing innovative product marketing messages for core audiences.
  • Basic XHTML and CSS skills.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property issues. 
  • Knowledge and experience in marketing products in developing countries.

Established in 1946, ATLA is a 501 (c) (3) professional association of more than 1,000 individual, institutional and affiliate members providing programs, products and services in support of theological and religious studies libraries and librarians. Headquartered in downtown Chicago, ATLA is led by a twelve-member Board of Directors. The Board appoints and oversees the work of the association’s Executive Director who, in turn, oversees a professional staff of 35-40 and a budget of over $5.5 million.

ATLA provides a wide range of services and products that benefit both individual and institutional members: workshops; an Annual Conference; member publications and discounts; and bibliographic indexes and full-text serials in theology and religion. EDS Collection Services Librarian

Duties and Responsibilities
Lesley University seeks a collaborative librarian for the position of EDS (Episcopal Divinity School) Collection Services Librarian. This is a half-time position with benefits. Under the daily supervision of the Head of Collection Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of theology materials at the Sherrill Library, as well as oversight for copy cataloging, database holdings maintenance, and related work. S/he will supervise student staff in collection services activities. Under the direction of the EDS Senior Assistant Director, the incumbent will participate in weekly reference service and collaborate on collection development in a specific subject area. 

Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Masters Degree in Information or Library Science from a U.S. accredited graduate school; 3-4 years cataloging or copy cataloging experience; excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; creativity and adaptability; knowledge of and experience with one or more modules of a library management system. Project Archivist for Eleven Months

Introduction:
The Burke Library at the Union Theological Seminary (Columbia University) seeks an experienced Archivist to process the New York Theological Seminary (NYTS) Archives, the Lindquist Collection of Native American Photographs, and related collections at the Burke Theological Library. Working under the Burke Library Director, the archivist will be responsible for arranging, describing, and preserving these archival collections.

The Burke Library, one of the largest theological libraries in the world, contains rich collections for theological study and research. With holdings of over 700,000 items, the Library is recognized as one of the premier libraries in its field, and includes extensive holdings of unique and special materials.

The mission of The Burke Library is to identify, acquire, organize, provide access to, interpret, and preserve information in the field of theology and contextually related areas of study.  The Library supports the specific instructional and research needs of Columbia University , Union Theological Seminary, and New York Theological Seminary, providing resources for the broader scholarly community in theology and related disciplines.

Position Summary:
The archivist will be responsible for the physical processing of part of the NYTS Archives, and the Lindquist Native American photographs to professional standards of arrangement and description in coordination with the Union Theological Seminary archivist, graduate student interns, other colleagues, and assistants. Additional duties include providing reference and reader services for the NYTS and other archival collections at the Burke Library, developing online exhibitions and other outreach resources related to the NYTS archives, answering reference inquiries, and providing research assistance. The incumbent will supervise students as needed.

Schedule
30 hours/ week. This is an eleven-month temporary position, with possible extension. This position is not benefits eligible.

Required Qualifications:
ALA
accredited MLS with formal course work in archives administration or an MA in archival management, and two years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Specific Qualifications
excellent organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to lift and carry heavy boxes and must be able to climb ladders and stairs; knowledge of DACS and demonstrated experience with professional standards and techniques for archival processing; demonstrated initiative, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
knowledge of American and New York social history; working knowledge of historical research methodology; experience with standard bibliographic tools for historical and religious studies; reading knowledge of at least one foreign language.
